No. 10 Field Hockey Defeated by No. 4 Salisbury in Battle of Nationally-Ranked Teams

SALISBURY, Md. - In a battle of two top-10 teams, the No. 10 Shenandoah University field hockey team lost 3-0 at No. 4 Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (6-1) scored all three of their goals in the first two quarters of the game, with Cassidy Alexander making 12 saves for the Hornets (5-2).

IN BRIEF

Salisbury applied the pressure early with two shots that Alexander saved, but the home team opened up the scoring immediately after the second shot, just 2:15 into the game.

The Sea Gulls maintained possession and scored their second goal of the game and quarter with under a minute left. Shenandoah only had one corner in the quarter nd were held without a shot.

Salisbury scored with two minutes left in the second quarter to make it 3-0 at the end of the half. Shenandoah's offense finally got to go to work with back-to-back penalty corners at the start of the third. On the latter of the two corners, Regan Flory had the only shot of the game for Shenandoah, which went wide of the cage.

Salisbury kept the ball on its end of the field for the rest of the game, earning nine more shots, with Shenandoah's Malory Holup making a defensive save.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah heads to Raleigh, North Carolina, next weekend for a pair of non-conference games versus St. Mary's College (Md.) and host team Meredith.
