Field Hockey Powers Past Seahawks, 4-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - In a neutral site game hosted by Meredith College, the No. 15 Shenandoah University field hockey team beat St. Mary's College (Md.) 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Tied at one at halftime, the Hornets (6-2) came out and scored three goals in the second half to take down the Seahawks (5-4). Regan Flory led the Hornets with two goals, her second multi-goal game of the year.

IN BRIEF

Midway through the first quarter, the Seahawks applied pressure offensively and forced SU goalie Cassidy Alexander to make four saves within 91 seconds of each other. Alexander made seven saves in the entire game.

St. Mary's finally got past the Hornets' defense and scored under three minutes into the quarter, to lead 1-0. However, the lead only lasted 43 seconds, as Flory quickly tied the game for SU.

Ellie Quinn picked up her second assist of the season as Flory added her second goal of the game to put SU in front, 2-1, seven minutes into the third quarter. Flory kept the attack going for Shenandoah, earning an assist of her own on Kierney Weigle's goal, which made it 3-1.

Claudia Lenahan capped the scoring for Shenandoah in the fourth quarter with a goal under four minutes into the final quarter. Shenandoah unloaded for 26 shots in the second half, compared to just four from the Seahawks.

The Hornets are back tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. for a non-conference game versus Meredith.
