Women's Volleyball Wins Second Straight ODAC Match

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team earned its second consecutive conference win with a 3-1 home victory over Hollins University on Saturday morning.

The Hornets (5-5, 2-1 ODAC) won the first two sets 25-18 and had a chance to close out the match in the third, but Hollins (4-8, 0-4) forced the fourth set with a 35-33 win in the third. SU finally won the match with a decisive 25-14 fourth frame.

RECAP

Hollins began the match with a quick 10-5 lead, which disappeared as SU went on a 5-0 run to tie the opening set at 10. Susan Smith provided three assists with Chillis Oke laying down three kills during the run.

Shenandoah took control of the set as they held a 21-16 lead. Hollins responded with a kill to come within four, but the Hornets were able to end the set as Oke delivered another kill and added a set-ending block.

With Shenandoah gaining an 11-10 lead in the second, it marked the fourth lead change of the frame. Four service aces, including two from Autumn Stroop, helped the Hornets keep the advantage and go up 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, Shenandoah led 23-19, but Hollins went on a 5-0 run to force SU to respond as they were down to set point. Each team held set point at least four times, with Hollins coming out on top, 35-33, thanks to consecutive errors by the Hornets.

Trailing 10-9 in the fourth, SU put its foot on the gas pedal and jumped out in front of Hollins by seven off an 8-0 run that saw four kills, three of which were assisted by Kylie Danella. Shenandoah never looked back after the 8-0 run and took the fourth set, claiming their second straight victory.

The Hornets have now won five straight matches against Hollins.
