Seven Hornets Score in Dominant 9-0 Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 15 Shenandoah University field hockey team dominated in a 9-0 non-conference win at Meredith College on Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets (7-2) had seven different goal scorers and 1o players with a point against the Avenging Angels (5-5).

RECAP

Kierney Weigle scored the first two goals of the game for SU, both within the first five minutes of action. 6:24 into the first quarter, Ellie Quinn made it 3-0 for the Hornets, with Reagan Flory earning the assist. Flory and Quinn assisted on Weigle's opening goal.

Towards the end of the first, Madison Short gave the Hornets a four-goal advantage, cleaning up the rebound of a Claudia Lenahan shot. Flory and Short scored again before the three-minute mark of the second quarter to give SU a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Mackenzie Watkins converted on a penalty stroke in the third quarter for the seventh goal of the afternoon, with Lenahan assisting on an Emily Swartzbaugh goal minutes later to make it 8-0. The scoring ended in the fourth quarter as Catherine Groszkowski scored her first career goal with 6:36 remaining.

With two assists today, Lenahan is now tied fifth with Presha Merritt for the most assists in program history with 25 career helpers.

Shenandoah plays at Sweet Briar College next Saturday to begin ODAC play.
