Men's Soccer Defeats Roanoke for First Time in 36 Years

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team opened up conference play with a 2-0 win at Roanoke College on Saturday night.

The Hornets (4-3-2, 1-0-0 ODAC) scored two goals in the second half of a weather-delayed game to defeat the Maroons (6-3, 0-1) for the first time since 1989.

IN BRIEF

A missed played ball by the Maroons defenders off a Luke Shearer corner kick fell right at the foot of Hatim Elkasouani at the top of the box. Elkhasouani then lasered the ball past the Maroons for the game's opening goal in the 53rd minute.

Roanoke only had one chance to tie the game, with Jake Ziervogel making a save to keep his team in front.

With one second left on the clock, Shearer had a one-on-one look with the Maroons' goalie and won the battle to put Shenandoah up by two.
