Volleyball Falls to Kean, 3-1

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team lost 3-1 on Saturday morning in a neutral-site match versus Kean University, hosted by Marymount University.

The Hornets (3-4) wrap up their weekend at the Marymount Quad with two wins after sweeping Friday's action. The Cougars (6-1) won their three sets, 25-7, 25-19, 25-20, after SU won set one, 25-20.

RECAP

A kill by Alana Washington helped SU take a quick 4-0 lead in the first. Ashlynn Spence then gave the Hornets a 7-1 advantage with another kill. Later in the set, Susan Smith and Chillis Oke connected twice to put the Hornets ahead by eight.

Kean was able to pull within five, but the Hornets quickly gained a nine-point advantage off another kill by Washington. A 3-0 run by SU pushed its lead to double digits, with Oke earning a solo block during the run. Hannah Hylton was able to close out the set with a kill for the Hornets after Kean went on a run of their own.

An early 2-1 lead in the second set and a 3-1 lead in the third were the only advantages Shenandoah had for the remainder of the match as Kean went on to win the final three sets.

Hylton and Spence each acquired 10 or more kills. Amanda Ingrassia led the Hornets with 18 assists, bringing her season total to 121. Autumn Stroop led the end defensively with 14 digs, while Oke protected the front of the net with three blocks.
