LEXINGTON, Va. - In a Saturday afternoon battle of two nationally-ranked ODAC teams, the No. 23 Shenandoah University women's basketball team was defeated by No. 6 Washington and Lee on the road, 69-52.

The undefeated Generals (13-0, 4-0 ODAC) pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Hornets (11-2, 3-1) 32-19, after only holding a small three-point lead at halftime. Emily Williams added another double-double to her season with a 13-point, 11-rebound performance.

RECAP

A beautiful assist from Williams to Skai Bayless gave Shenandoah the first points of the afternoon. Brynna Nesselrodt scored the next five points for the Hornets, which gave them a 7-6 lead roughly halfway through the first quarter. However, the home team ended the opening frame on a 12-3 run that gave them an eight-point advantage.

The Hornets held the Generals to zero points for the first four minutes of the second, cutting their deficit down to two behind a pair of baskets from Bayless and a jumper from Nesselrodt. Taylor Moran chipped in four points, and Nesselrodt made a three-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining to only trail by three at halftime.

After the Generals got their lead back to two possessions at the start of the third, Williams responded for SU to cut the deficit down to two. However, the Generals converted six three-pointers in the quarter to give them a 60-44 lead.

The teams were evenly matched in the fourth quarter, with the Generals only holding a one-point advantage in the final 10 minutes. With the teams evenly matched, the Hornets weren't able to cut the Generals' lead below 10, which helped the home team stay undefeated.
