Banks Leads Women's Basketball to Win Over Lynchburg

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 22 Shenandoah University women's basketball team picked up its fourth victory by 20 points or more with a 72-51 win against the University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon at home in conference play.

SU (13-2, 5-1 ODAC) outscored LYN (8-7, 1-5) by double digits in the first and third quarters and had 11 steals as a team, with the duo of Addisyn Banks and Emily Williams snatching four steals each.

Skai Bayless connected with Brynna Nesselrodt for a three-pointer on the first possession of the game for SU before Bayless found the scoring column to give the home team a 5-0 advantage. Bayless provided the next two baskets for SU, and Nesselrodt made another shot from downtown, helping SU get a 10-point lead.

Williams, who had four steals in the first quarter, made a fastbreak layup at the buzzer to keep SU's lead at 10 at the conclusion of the first.

Lynchburg cut its deficit down to seven points at the beginning of the second, but Banks chipped in five points and added two assists to get the lead up to 16 for SU on a 9-0 run. The lead advanced to 18 off a three-pointer by Nesselrodt and free throws by Tristian Shaver, but LYN ended the half on a 6-0 run.

In the third, LYN got SU's lead back down to single digits for the final time in the game, but Banks and Nesselrodt made back-to-back corner threes, forcing the lead back to 16. Banks scored 15 of her 26 points in the third, with Bayless chipping in a jumper right before the end of the quarter.

Lynchburg outscored Shenandoah by two points in the final quarter, but SU was able to get its largest lead of the game, 28 points. All 15 active SU players saw playing time in the victory.

Four of the five SU starters reached double-digits in points. The team also dished out 19 assists, led by Banks' six. Additionally, Banks led the team with eight rebounds.
