Women's Basketball Wins Midweek Clash with Royals

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The No. 21 Shenandoah University women's basketball team used an 18-point second quarter to pull away in a 69-47 road ODAC win at Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night.

The Hornets (14-2, 6-1 ODAC) won their third consecutive game behind a double-double from Emily Williams, her eighth of the season, against the Royals (5-11, 0-7). Addisyn Banks was one rebound away from her sixth double-double of the season, while supporting the team with 12 points.

RECAP

Eastern Mennonite started fast with a 13-4 lead, but a 9-0 run by Shenandoah equalized the contest at 13 at the end of the first. The 9-0 run expanded to 17-2, giving the Hornets a five-point lead with six minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Williams provided consecutive layups for SU before assisting on a Brynna Nesselrodt three-pointer to extend the lead. A block by Taylor Moran led to a last-minute bucket from Skai Bayless, ensuring a double-digit halftime lead for the visitors.

In the third quarter, Shenandoah's lead hit 20 points thanks to an 8-0 run in the middle of the frame. The Hornets' defense allowed just three points in the final 4:35 of the quarter.

Shenandoah kept the Royals just four points in the first seven minutes of the fourth with defensive help off a steal from Moran and a block by Banks. Offensively, Williams provided six of the first eight SU points in the quarter. Points in the paint by Reagan Smith and Mya Martin gave the Hornets their largest lead of the evening, 67-39, before Maddie Belan capped off the scoring with a layup.

SU dominated the paint, outscoring the EMU 44-12 downlow. The Hornets also had a 51-30 advantage on rebounds, which helped them get 12 second-chance points.
