Women's Basketball Defeated at Home by Randolph

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 21 Shenandoah University women's basketball team was upset at home by Randolph College, 56-54, on Friday night in ODAC play.

The Hornets (14-3, 6-2 ODAC), trailing by nine early in the fourth, were able to cut their deficit to two with under a minute remaining, but the WildCats (8-9, 2-6) went down and made two free throws, sealing the victory.

RECAP
A three-pointer by Randolph provided the only points of the game for either team in the first three minutes. Addisyn Banks made the first bucket for SU, tying the contest at three. The WildCats scored the next seven points of the game, helping them to a 15-7 lead at the end of one.

Skai Bayless and Lily Berger each hit shots from downtown in the early portion of the second, but Randolph still led by two. With roughly four minutes left in the quarter, and the WildCats up by five, Brynna Nesselrodt scored five consecutive points for SU, tying the game at 21. An 8-2 run by Randolph ended the half and gave them a 29-23 lead.

In the third, defense prevailed as each team only made four field goals, which allowed Randolph to keep the lead entering the fourth.

With 6:30 remaining in the game, Randolph led by nine, but Banks landed back-to-back shots bringing SU within four. Two minutes later, Bayless made it a one-possession game with a layup, capping a 7-1 run for the Hornets.

Randolph grew its lead back to five, but Nesselrodt hit a clutch three-pointer to make it a two-point game with 2:32 remaining. However, the WildCats ran right down the court and made a three of their own, to lead by multiple possessions once again.

Banks scored four points across the final minutes of the game, putting the pressure on the WildCats, as the visitors led 54-52. Looking to tie the contest, the Hornets caught the WildCats in the back court and nearly forced a turnover, but Randolph kept possession and made two crucial free throws to seal the win.

Banks finished the game with 20 points and five rebounds while playing 38 minutes. Nesselrodt added 18 points for SU with three three-pointers, while Bayless chipped in 11 points.
