Women's Basketball Defeated by Bridgewater on the Road

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team was defeated 63-49 on the road at Bridgewater College on Thursday night in an ODAC game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday.

The Eagles (15-3, 8-1 ODAC) overcame the Hornets' (14-4, 6-3) early 10-point advantage and outscored the visitors by 22 points across the final three quarters, while making 23 shots from the free throw line in the game.

RECAP

Emily Williams scored the first points of the evening and Brynna Nesselrodt added a three-pointer to give Shenandoah a 9-2 lead less than three minutes into the game. Nesselrodt buried another three-pointer to grow the lead to double digits, as the Eagles missed their first seven shots of the game.

Late in the first quarter, Bridgewater cut the deficit down to six, but Addisyn Banks added a late layup to give SU an eight-point cushion at the end of one.

Bridgewater began the second quarter on a 9-2 run, cutting the Hornets' lead to one with just over four minutes left in the opening half. The Eagles grabbed the lead late in the frame but Williams hit a shot with no time left on the clock, flipping the lead back to the Hornets' favor at halftime.

Williams started the third quarter in the same fashion as the first, scoring the first points of the quarter, but an 8-0 stretch by the Eagles gave them a 29-24 lead. The lead grew to seven for the home team, but jumpers by Nesselrodt and Mya Martin made it a one-possession game.

Leading 37-34 and with little time left on the clock in the third, Bridgewater nailed a buzzer-beater three from the top of the key, doubling its lead. Before the fourth quarter officially started, Bridgewater received a technical foul, leading to Williams making a free throw to cut SU's deficit to five.

Early in the fourth, Banks hit a jumper to keep the deficit at five, but a 12-0 run by the Eagles gave them a 17-point lead with 6:11 remaining on the clock. Throughout the rest of the game Bridgewater only made free throws and held the Hornets to only two made field goals to secure the win.

Banks and Williams led Shenandoah in scoring with 19 and 17 points, respectively, while Williams notched 13 rebounds for a double-double.
