WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 24 Shenandoah University women's basketball team opened 2026 with a 58-42 non-conference home win over DeSales University on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (10-1) dominated the first quarter with a 17-0 run, which propelled them to a 13-point advantage at the end of the first quarter over the Bulldogs (6-5). Emily Williams and Addisyn Banks combined for four blocks and eight steals, leading the defense, while also leading the offense with 12 points each.

RECAP

DeSales gathered an early 6-4 lead, but SU quickly gained the lead with threes from Banks and Brynna Nesselrodt. Jessica Littlejohn and Williams added to the scoring to extend the lead to 17-6 with just under five minutes remaining in the first.

Shenandoah's defense held DeSales scoreless for nearly eight minutes in the opening quarter, with Banks having three steals and a block in the frame.

Taylor Moran knocked down a three-pointer to open the second, giving SU a 16-point cushion. By the halfway point of the quarter, the Bulldogs cut their deficit down to seven. SU carried a 12-point lead into halftime behind a quarter-ending 8-2 run, powered by four points from Skai Bayless.

The third and fourth quarters were copied and pasted from each other, as SU outscored DeSales 12-10 in each quarter. After only having one trip to the free throw line through the first three quarters, SU was sent to the line for eight shots in the final period, hitting six of them. DeSales only converted 50 percent of its shots from the line in the game.

Williams finished with a double-double, with 16-rebounds to go along with her 12 points.

The Hornets doubled up the Bulldogs on points off turnovers and held a 9-2 advantage on second-chance points.
