No. 23/RV Women's Basketball Wins Sixth Straight

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 23/RV Shenandoah University women's basketball team won its sixth straight game on Wednesday night with a 70-38 ODAC home victory over Averett University.

The Hornets (11-0, 3-0 ODAC) made 11 threes as a team, which is tied for the third most in a game for SU (since 2009). Three players scored at least 10 points for SU, with Brynna Nesselrodt matching a career-high with 21 points against the Cougars (4-8, 0-3).

Skai Bayless connected with Nesselrodt for a game-opening three-pointer for the first points of the night. Emily Williams scored the next four points for the Hornets, followed by a three by Addisyn Banks, giving a 10-6 lead to SU. Averett tied the game at 10, where the score would sit entering the media timeout.

Shenandoah held Averett scoreless for the final five minutes of the opening frame and scored seven points at the other end of the court for a 17-10 lead after one.

The Hornets quickly pushed their lead up to 13 after scoring on four of their first five possessions in the second quarter. Up 29-18 in the middle of the second, SU got three consecutive baskets from Banks for an 18-point lead.

Nesselrodt gave SU a 41-22 lead at halftime with a three-pointer just before the buzzer off an assist from Jessica Littlejohn. Banks led the Hornets with 18 points in the first half on a perfect shooting percentage.

Averett only made one field goal for the first five minutes of the second half, with SU grabbing a 27-point lead behind an 11-3 run thanks to eight points from Nesselrodt. The forward completed her 11-point quarter with another shot from beyond the arc with 10 seconds left.

Shenandoah maintained its lead in the fourth quarter while holding Averett to just two field goals in the final 10 minutes of play.

Mya Martin, Anaya Wilson, Taylor Moran, and Lily Berger combined for SU's 14 bench points as all 16 active SU players saw playing time.
