No. 15 Roanoke Defeats Men's Basketball in Midweek Game

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team was defeated by No. 15 Roanoke College, 77-34, on Wednesday at home in an ODAC game.

The nationally-ranked Maroons (9-3, 2-1 ODAC) gave up the first point of the game but responded with a 12-0 run to take control of the game against the Hornets (7-5, 0-3), as the visitors shot over 50 percent as a team in both halves.

IN BRIEF

Each team had a steal in the first minute of the game, with Joseph Baldwin intercepting a pass for SU, leading to a free throw by the big man. Roanoke took a 12-1 lead over the next four minutes behind a pair of threes and two Shenandoah turnovers.

Ellis Wright made the first field goal of the day for the Hornets six minutes into the game. Wright then made a pair of shots from the line, cutting SU's deficit in half, but another 12-0 run by the Maroons gave them an 18-point advantage with just under 10 minutes left in the first.

A three-pointer by Baldwin and another one by Dorian Davis gave SU its final points of the half as Roanoke led 45-15 at halftime. Roanoke's lead continued to grow at the start of the second until Matthew Simmons and Davis made consecutive layups thanks to a steal by John Allen.

After a three-pointer by Simmons with 11:19 remaining in the game, the Maroons' defense held the Hornets to just five more points, ending the game on an 18-5 run.

Eight different Hornets scored in the game, with Davis leading the way with nine points. Baldwin led the defense with three steals, seven total rebounds, and a block.
