Women's Volleyball Downs Roanoke on the Road

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team went on the road on Friday evening and defeated Roanoke College 3-1 in ODAC action.

The Hornets (9-6, 4-3 ODAC) dropped the first set 25-21 to the Maroons (11-6, 2-3) but came back and took the next three sets, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21.

RECAP

After losing the first set, the Hornets faced an 8-5 deficit in the second. SU proceeded to go on an 11-3 run to claim a 16-11 advantage. Danica Duncan and Ashlynn Spence gave SU two kills to push the lead to 18-12. The Hornets held onto the lead for the remainder of the second, with Riley Link picking up the final point with a kill.

Four SU kills and three Maroon errors helped SU take a 7-1 lead in the third. However, the Maroons fought back to force a tie at 18 late in the set. Shenandoah responded with a 5-0 run, which gave them enough distance to win the third set.

The fourth set saw 15 ties and five lead changes. The final tie came at 20-20, thanks to a kill from Hannah Hylton off an assist from Amanda Schaffer. The kill started the game-clinching 6-1 SU run.

Shenandoah had 57 kills as a team, which is a season high. Hylton, Spence, and Myah Watson each had at least 10 kills.

The Hornets defended the net well with 11 total blocks, led by Watson, who had two solo blocks and four block assists.
