Davis Scores Game-High in Loss to No. 2 RMC

Hornets Defeated, 80-52

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team was defeated by No. 2 Randolph-Macon College 80-52 at home on Wednesday night in a midweek ODAC contest.

The Yellow Jackets (20-2, 11-2 ODAC) grabbed a 21-3 lead seven minutes in to grab control early over the Hornets (11-11, 4-9). SU's Dorian Davis led both teams with 17 points and nine rebounds.

RECAP

The Yellow Jackets led 13-0 before Dorian Davis grabbed his own rebound and scored SU's first points of the night four minutes into the game. Points by Ellis Wright and John Allen ended RMC's initial 21-3 run, cutting SU's deficit to 13.

Over the next few minutes, the teams traded points with Matthew Simmons, Wright, and Davis scoring for the Hornets. The Yellow Jackets' defense then held SU scoreless for a three-minute stretch that allowed them to take a 22-point lead with 6:39 left in the first. For Shenandoah, Landon Russ scored five of the team's final 10 points in the first, as RMC led 43-24 at half.

Wright scored five points early in the second half, helping SU cut its deficit to 15 with 18 minutes to play. However, RMC then went on an 18-3 run that grew its lead to 30 points, 63-33, with 11:46 left.

Davis hit a three-pointer and a layup, plus earned a steal, in a 7-0 run for the Hornets. Randolph-Macon then came right back with a 9-0 run of its own for a 72-40 lead. The game ended with Simmons and Russ scoring the final points of the night for SU, cutting RMC's lead back below 30 points.
