Second Half Comeback Falls Short for Men's Basketball at No. 21 Roanoke

MBB Defeated by No. 21 Roanoke, 62-57

SALEM, Va. - A second-half comeback fell just short in a 62-57 loss at No. 21 Roanoke College on Saturday for the Shenandoah University men's basketball team.

The Hornets (11-12, 4-10 ODAC) trailed by 17 with just under seven minutes left and cut the deficit to four at the tail end of the game. The Maroons (17-6, 10-4) converted a free throw and forced two stops to lock up the win.

RECAP

Dorian Davis recorded the first five points of the game for SU, giving them a 5-4 lead five minutes in. Roanoke captured an 18-12 advantage minutes later, but a three-pointer by Landon Russ made it a one-possession game.

After Roanoke extended its lead back to six, a late first-half layup by Seth Sanusi tied the game at 23. Roanoke hit two free throws before the end of the first to carry a 25-23 lead into the second.

Points by Samuel Dailey and Ellis Wright helped the Hornets keep it a two-point game early in the second half. However, a 14-3 run by the Maroons pushed their lead to 17 with 6:56 remaining.

Throughout the final seven minutes, Shenandoah chipped away at its double-digit deficit with three-pointers from Andrew Ford and Isaiah Lee. During that same stretch, Davis dropped seven points, helping SU pull within four. However, the Maroons made a late free throw and stopped the Hornets on two straight trips down the court to take the win.

Davis led all players with 22 points and added seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
