Men's Tennis Advances to ODAC Championship for First Time

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team will compete for an ODAC Championship for the first time in program history after defeating Averett University 4-3 in the semifinals on Saturday at Washington and Lee.

The Hornets (14-5) clinched the semifinal win with Artem Babaiev's win at No. 4. Babaiev downed Rafael Jodas 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. The Cougars (9-7) came back to tie the match 3-3 with wins at singles No. three, five, and six. 

The Hornets took the 1-0 lead after clinching doubles. Babaiev and Max Arkans went with a 6-1 win at No. 2 and Lucas Beasley and Shine Tokas pieced together a 6-3 win at No. 1.

In singles, Dominick Suwak won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 against Alex Rudy. At No. 2, Tokas gave the Hornets another victory with his 7-5, 6-3 decision.

UP NEXT

The Hornets now face host team Washington and Lee University tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the championship game. The Generals defeated SU 6-1 earlier this season.
