WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah men's soccer opened up its 2026 season at home under the lights of Shentel Stadium against non-conference Johns Hopkins on Tuesday.
Despite a late scoring push from the Hornets, the Blue Jays (1-0) held on to defeat the Hornets (0-1), 3-2.

The Blue Jays' offense sparked early, with Brendan Listzwan finding the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead within the first ten minutes.
Opening the second half, the Hornets found the equalizer in the 52nd minute through Dylan Johnson. Johns Hopkins responded to the Hornets' goal just seven minutes later, Jacob Sardinha giving the Blue Jays the go-ahead, 2-1.
With 10 minutes left of the game, Johns Hopkins found its final goal through Gabriel Pirayou, but the Hornets continued to press their scoring efforts.
With just 17 seconds left before the final whistle, Jack Mudd — assisted by Connor Wilkes — cut into Shenandoah's deficit, besting the Blue Jays' keeper Ryan Aiken for his first goal of the season. Jarbin Rodriguez picked up the assist on the late tally.
In addition to his assist, Rodriguez finished the night with three shots, all of which were on target for the Hornets. Shenandoah outshot Johns Hopkins 10-7.
