MADISON, N.J. — A second-half strike by Emily Soos proved to be the game-winner as the Shenandoah University women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1–0 shutout victory over Drew University at Ranger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Hornets improved their record to 3-1-0 overall, while the Rangers dropped to 0-1-2.
How It Happened
The first half was a defensive battle characterized by physical play and limited opportunities. Shenandoah tested Drew goalkeeper Hayden Scotti early, forcing a save on a shot by Hannah Sanson in the opening minute. The Hornets generated additional pressure midway through the period, highlighted by a McKenna Newcome strike that rattled off the top woodwork in the 25th minute. Drew pushed forward with late chances from Maddie Gottschling and Hannah Stahl, but the match remained scoreless going into halftime.
Shenandoah broke the stalemate early in the second half. After Kylie Malone hit the top woodwork in the 49th minute and followed up with another quick attempt, the Hornets earned a corner kick. In the 51st minute (50:41), Soos found the back of the net unassisted for her first goal of the season to give Shenandoah a 1–0 lead.
Drew mounted a strong defensive effort to keep the game within reach, with Scotti making four total saves on the day. In the closing minutes, the Rangers pushed hard for an equalizer, creating late attempts by Alexandria Foley and Emily Wallace. However, Shenandoah goalkeeper Morgan Musselman stood tall, stopping all four shots she faced in the second half to secure the complete-game shutout victory.
