Women's Soccer Sweeps Weekend at Drew Fall Festival

MADISON, N.J. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team completed a perfect weekend at the Drew Fall Festival, as they defeated Alvernia University 5-0 on Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site game.

The Hornets (4-1) have their most wins through the first five games of a season since 2016. They earned their fourth win of the year behind three first half goals against the Golden Wolves (1-3-1).

RECAP

Right off the opening kick, Alicia Bauer scored for the Hornets 18 seconds into the game. The last time the Hornets scored that soon into a game was in the 2019 season opener against N.C. Wesleyan.

In the 16th minute, off a corner kick, McKenna Newcome scored for the third goal of the week and fourth of the season, putting the Hornets up 2-0. The Hornets continued to apply offensive pressure, with five shots across the next 15 minutes, ending with a Kirklyn Wilson goal which put them up 3-0.

Two saves by Morgan Musselman in the second half kept the Hornets up by three and led to two quick goals from SU, with Lauren Duffy scoring the two goals. Olivia Daniele picked up an assist on Duffy's second goal.

Musselman went on to make one more save in the game, earning the three-save clean sheet. The win is her third of the season, and she finished the weekend with seven total saves.
