No. 20 Field Hockey Defeats Dickinson

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 20 Shenandoah University field hockey team held on for a 3-2 non-conference win at home over Dickinson College on Wednesday evening.

The Hornets (4-1) scored the first three goals of the evening, but the Red Devils (1-4) scored two late goals to come within one. With 30 seconds left on the clock, Shenandoah's defense cleared the ball to hold on for the win.

RECAP

Both teams' goalies made a save in the first quarter. SU's Cassidy Alexander came up with the first stop of the game three and a half minutes in. Shenandoah's best chance of the quarter came on a penalty stroke attempt in the first, but it missed wide to keep the game scoreless.

Midway through the second quarter, Shenandoah was awarded a penalty corner and had Ava Field take the corner. The ball was worked up to Reagan Flory, who found Fields for the game's first goal. Flory then got in the score column as she made it 2-0 in the third with an assist from Kierney Weigle.

Early in the fourth quarter, Fields took another corner for SU and passed it up to Camryn DeLeva. DeLeva found Weigle in the middle of the shooting circle, who put the ball on net, and Fields tipped it in for a 3-0 SU lead. The goal gave Fields and Weigle multi-point nights.

Minutes later, Dickinson broke through for its first goal of the game and quickly scored its second of the game. Trailing 3-2, the Red Devils picked up a corner but were unable to tie the game.

Shenandoah heads to No. 7 Franklin and Marshall this Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
