Women's Volleyball Swept by No. 18 Batten

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team traveled to No. 18 Batten University on Wednesday evening and fell 3-0 in the first ODAC match of the season for SU.

The Marlins (8-1, 1-0 ODAC) swept the Hornets (3-3, 0-1), 25-14, 25-21, 25-17.

RECAP

The Marlins jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first, with the Hornets later able to cut their deficit down to three at 10-7. An 8-1 run by the home team pushed the lead to double digits, helping them take the first set.

Three errors by the Marlins, plus a block by Myah Watson, let the Hornets get the early lead in the second. The Marlins flipped the script and led by four, 9-5. Four more errors by the Marlins helped the Hornets tie the set at nine, but Batten would hold on to the lead. Down 19-13, the Hornets started an 8-2 run to tie the set at 21 behind points from Watson, Ashlynn Spence, and Danica Duncan. Despite the comeback, the Marlins held on for the set win, winning the last four rallies.

Batten controlled the third set, leading 8-1 early. Shenandoah cut the deficit down to three, but were unable to get closer than that as the Marlins took the frame, 25-17.

Shenandoah had six total blocks. Watson had the lone solo block, while Spence, Riley Link, and Alana Washington joined Watson with multiple block assists.
