Women's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Five

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team pushed its win streak to five games with a 3-2 non-conference road win over Catholic University of America on Saturday afternoon.

McKenna Newcome scored her third game-winning goal of the season to lift the Hornets (6-1) past the Cardinals (3-2-1).

RECAP

Catholic scored on the first shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Alicia Bauer responded for the Hornets in the 35th minute, scoring on their first shot of the afternoon to tie the game. The tie didn't last long as the Cardinals scored five minutes later to carry a 2-1 lead into the second half.

McKenna Newcome had two shots on goal in the first 25 minutes of the second half, but each shot was saved. Shortly after her second shot, the midfielder found Hannah Sanson for the game-tying marker in the 71st minute. The goal was the first of Sanson's career.

At the other end of the field, Molly Donaldson made a key save to keep the game tied. The save allowed the Hornets' offense to transition down the field, with Newcome providing the go-ahead goal with 11 minutes to go, giving SU the win.

Newcome is now fourth all-time in career game-winning goals for the Hornets.
