WINCHESTER, Va. — The Shenandoah University Field Hockey team rode a balanced attack and three assists from
Camryn DeLeva to defeat Sewanee 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Aikens Stadium.
The Hornets (6-1) scored all five goals on penalty corners after outlasting the early strike from the Tigers (5-2).
How It Happened
Sewanee jumped out to an early lead six minutes into the contest when Maggie Hazelrigg found the back of the net off an assist from Molly Haskell. Shenandoah responded shortly after, leveling the match in the 10th minute on an unassisted goal by
Ellie Quinn.
The Hornets took control in the second period, striking twice in under two minutes.
Reagan Flory put Shenandoah ahead 2-1 at the 16:32 mark, and
Kierney Weigle extended the lead to 3-1 less than two minutes later, both set up by DeLeva.
Shenandoah kept the momentum early in the second half.
Ava Fields converted a pass from Flory off a penalty corner in the 35th minute to build a 4-1 advantage. Sewanee pulled one back later in the third quarter when Natalie BeVier scored unassisted at 39:05, but the Tigers were unable to bridge the gap in the final period.
