NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Shenandoah University men's tennis team closed out Day 2 of the CNU Invitational with a tough dual-style matchup against host Christopher Newport University. 

Doubles Play

Christopher Newport swept the doubles round to build early momentum. CNU's Smith and Christiansen earned an 8-3 win over Shenandoah's top duo of Lucas Beasley and Benjamin Brasfield.

The closest battle of the doubles round came at No. 2, where Shine Tokas and Gray Broermann pushed CNU's Ceric and Halvorsen to the absolute brink, ultimately falling just short in a tight tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-3). CNU secured the remaining doubles spots with victories by Wallace/Grathwohl over Tommy Cowell and Marcel Mizerski (8-2) and Lee/Green over Jacob Kim and Max Arkans (8-1).

Singles Action

The Captains carried their momentum into singles play, securing top-flight victories from Christiansen over Tokas (6-1, 6-2) and Smith over Beasley (6-3, 7-5).

Shenandoah's young core shined in the middle of the lineup, forcing multiple match tiebreakers:

• At No. 3 singles, Benjamin Brasfield rallied back after dropping the first set to claim the second, forcing a deciding third-set tiebreaker before falling to Ceric, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

• At No. 5 singles, Marcel Mizerski struck first by taking a opening-set tiebreaker (7-2), but CNU's Grathwohl responded to force a third-set tiebreaker and edge out the win, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 10-8.

The highlight of the day for the Hornets came at No. 7 singles, where Max Arkans delivered a standout performance. Arkans took control early and never let up, powering past CNU's Alex Halvorsen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to put Shenandoah on the board.

CNU closed out the remaining singles matches with wins by Carrasco over Broermann (6-0, 6-1), Onoff over Cowell (6-3, 6-3), and Green over Kim (6-2, 6-2).
