Men's Soccer Defeats Mary Washington for First Time Since 1989

WINCHESTER, Va. - For the first time since 1989, the Shenandoah University men's soccer team defeated the University of Mary Washington, 2-0, at home on Wednesday night.

A first minute goal from Dylan Johnson gave the Hornets (3-2-4) the early momentum needed for the non-conference victory. With tonight's win over the Eagles (5-3-1), it also marks the first time since 2007 that SU hasn't allowed a goal in three straight games.

RECAP

Shenandoah wasted no time finding the back of the net, as Dylan Johnson made it 1-0 52 seconds into the game. That'd be the only goal of the half, despite Shenandoah outshooting the Eagles 6-0.

In the 54th minute, Aidan King-Miller made his lone save of the game to keep the Hornets up 1-0. King-Miller has stopped the last six shots he's faced, across the three-game shutout streak.

Still up 1-0, the Hornets were able to add an insurance goal in the 81st minute as Luke Shearer added his second goal of the season off an assist from Chase Prado.

Shenandoah ended up outshooting UMW 12-2 and having a 9-3 advantage in corners during the game.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah returns to ODAC competition for the rest of the season, beginning on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game at Hampden-Sydney.
