FREDERICK, Md. - Shenandoah Volleyball picked up a pair of straight-set victories on Saturday, defeating Notre Dame (MD) and host Hood College in sweep fashion at the Volpe Athletic Center.
Game 1: Shenandoah 3, Notre Dame (MD) 0
Shenandoah (1-1) kicked off the day with a hard-fought sweep over Notre Dame (MD) (1-2), winning 3-0 (28-26, 25-16, 25-23).
The opening set saw an intense back-and-forth battle featuring 16 ties and nine lead changes. Trailing 26-25 late in set one, Shenandoah closed on a 3-0 run capped by an Ashlynn Spence kill and a pair of Gators attack errors to steal the set 28-26. Shenandoah pulled away cleanly in the second set behind a balanced attack before fending off a late 6-0 run from Notre Dame in the final set to close out the match.
Hannah Hylton spearheaded the Hornets' offense with 11 kills and eight digs. Spence added six kills and three block assists, while Alana Washington and Amber Shifflett each recorded six kills. Amanda Schaffer dished out 15 assists alongside seven digs, and Vanessa Rodriguez added six assists.
Game 2: Shenandoah 3, Hood 0
Shenandoah (2-1) maintained its momentum in the afternoon matchup, sweeping host Hood College (0-4) 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-19).
In another tight opening set, Hood held a late 24-21 lead before Shenandoah rallied. The Hornets survived set point and eventually capped a thriller with a kill from Hylton to take set one 27-25. Shenandoah controlled the tempo from there, relying on strong serving and blocking to complete the match sweep.
Hylton had a standout performance, posting a match-high 13 kills on a .423 hitting percentage, five service aces, and 10 digs. Riley Link provided major efficiency with seven kills on a .538 attack percentage, while Danica Duncan posted six kills. Spence tallied four kills and five block assists. Setting duties were shared by Schaffer (13 assists), Alayna Cole (8 assists), and Susan Smith (6 assists).

The Hornets spend another Saturday on the road as they travel to Arlington, Virginia to compete in a tri-match againt Ramapo College and hosts Marymount University. First serves are set for 1pm and 3pm.
