DANVILLE, Va. – The Shenandoah University football team pitched the first shutout in program history with a 20-0 Dixie Conference victory over fellow first-year program Averett College Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (2-6, 1-2 Dixie) led 21-0 at the break before scoring nine points in the third quarter to complete the shutout win over the Cougars (1-8, 0-3).

Dennis Robart scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown by blasting over from the 4-yard line at the 4:20 mark of the first.

Trey Kern had the Hornets next two touchdowns, rushing in from the 2 and the 1, respectively, to give the visitors the 21-0 halftime lead.

Anthony McGhee had a two-point conversion run on Kern's first TD.

Another Robart touchdown, this one from the 1, along with a Morgan Linkenauger 27-yard field goal, capped the day's scoring.

Shenandoah had 196 of its 246 yards of total offense on the ground with Kern posting a game-high 75 yards rushing on 18 carries.

Matt Harrison had eight tackles to lead the defense.

SU held AC to 182 yards of total offense, recovered two fumbles and picked off two passes.
