WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah women's basketball team came up big in its penultimate non-conference game of the season Thursday evening with an 84-44 blowout of visiting Villa Julie College.
Tenacious full court pressure from the Hornets (7-6) proved too much for Villa Julie (0-18); SU forced 24 first half turnovers on its way to a 37-19 halftime advantage.
Junior Katie Woods (Winchester, Va./Sherando)and freshman Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Arlington) led the offensive charge going into the break with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Hornets pulled away in the second half by out-rebounding the visitors 22 to eight and shooting a sizzling 54.5 percent (18-33) from the field.
Woods finished the game with a game-high 23 points on 10 for 17 shooting while Fisher celebrated her third Dixie Conference Rookie of the Week honor with 19.
Sophomore point guard Jenny Gray (Summerduck, Va./Liberty) had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
Katie Dickel led Villa Julie with 14 points.
