GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team completed its regular season Saturday afternoon with a split of its final two USA South matches.

Shenandoah (11-20, 8-8) rebounded from a 3-0 (30-12, 30-17, 30-15) loss to host Greensboro to defeat Chowan College 3-1 (30-28, 31-29, 30-32, 30-20).

Fresh off of a five-game victory at home Friday night over NC Wesleyan, the Hornets traveled five hours for the Saturday morning matches at Greensboro College. GC (24-12, 14-2) used the lack of rest against SU in the 10:30 am match, but fortunately Coach Sarah Pelster's club was able to come back in the second match of the day.

Junior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) led SU in that opening match with nine kills.

Senior Lesley Beard (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Finch) was the story of the day for the Hornets as the setter used a 50 assist effort against the Braves to break the Shenandoah single season record for assists. Now with 857 assists with at least one match to go this season, Beard is 10 clear of previous record holder Brandy Kuykendall '01. Kuykendall set the mark in 1999.
