HARRISONBURG, Va. - Eastern Mennonite used a strong first half to propel the Royals to a 77-56 women's basketball victory over visiting Shenandoah University in the 2003-04 openers for both schools.
EMU (1-0) jumped out to a 16-2 lead before the Hornets (0-1) Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) drained a three-pointer to bring SU back within 11.
The Royals led by as much as 33 before a cold streak allowed Coach Kathy Orsini's squad to get back in it after the break. Sophomore Joia Davis (Trenton, NJ/Stuart County) and freshman Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W.Va./East Hardy) led the visitors with 11 points each.
