WINCHESTER, Va. - Emory and Henry College prevented Shenandoah University from making a third straight appearance in its season opening tournament championship game with a 102-67 victory in Saturday afternoon's first round.

Emory and Henry (1-0) will now face Marietta (1-0) in Sunday's championship. The Pioneers advanced to the championship with an 82-71 overtime victory over Mary Washington College. MC had to hit a game tying shot at the buzzer to send the game into the extra period.

The Wasps made quick work of the host Hornets in the second contest of the day; E&H; jumped out a 15 point lead nine minutes into the contest and eventually took a 56-26 bulge into the halftime lockeroom.

E&H; shot a respectable 16 for 37 (43.2 percent) in that first half, while Shenandoah was an an anemic 7 for 33 (21.2). SU also made its job more difficult by committing 11 turnovers and being called for 19 fouls. The Wasps made 21 of 28 free throws before the break.

After a 15 minute delay to cool off the gymnasium 40 seconds into the second half, Shenandoah turned up the heat with a 16-9 run by the fifteen minute mark that got the Hornets within 23. Unfortunately, this would be as close as SU would come until closing the gap to 22 at 87-65 with 4:04 left.

Junior Chris Rhone (Washington, D.C./Northwestern) had a team high 19 for Shenandoah while Justin Call had 25 for E&H.;
