HARRISONBURG, Va. - A valiant second half effort was not enough to overcome a 16 point halftime deficit as Shenandoah lost to Meredith College, 70-57, on the second day of the Eastern Mennonite Classic Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (0-2) shot 26-percent in the first half to fall behind the Angels, 36-20, at the intermission.

Shenandoah showed incredible resiliency for a young team in the second half as the Hornets shot 49-percent, but found the hole they were in was just too deep.

SU was led by freshman Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W.Va./East Hardy) who scored a game high 16 points in the losing effort. The Hornets' youth movement was further supported by 2002-03 USA South Rookie of the Year Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) who netted 14 points and sophomore Joia Davis (Trenton, N.J./Stuart Co.) with 11.

Meredith was paced by 13 points apiece from Ruth Stephenson and Tina Harkness, and received the game's only double-double performance from Amira Issa who recorded 10 points and 16 boards.
