WINCHESTER, Va. - The SU women's basketball team continued its strong play Wednesday evening with a 64-62 upset victory over Chowan College.

SU (12-9, 6-6) got the game winning basket with four seconds remaining when freshman Joia Davis took a feed from sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) and converted a reverse layup with two Chowan defenders hanging on her.

Davis bucket allowed Shenandoah to preserve the upset victory and erased a 12-point comeback by the visiting Lady Braves (14-8, 7-5).

Down 57-42 with 5:42 remaining, Chowan went on a 20-5 run over the next 4:02 to tie the game at 62 with 1:40 left. The two teams then traded four scoreless possessions before SU called timeout with 13 seconds on the clock to set up the final play.

Shenandoah trailed 29-24 at the half, but a 10-4 run to start the second gave the hosts a lead it would hold until CC tied the game on the Chasity Vaughn layup at the 1:40 mark.

Junior Katie Woods (Winchester, Va./Sherando) led with 19 points while freshman Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) added 18.

CC had four players in double figures; Amanda Murray and Tawana Tucker both had 14.
