FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Shenandoah Women's Basketball team took a one point lead into halftime against No. 3 seed Greensboro Thursday evening in the quarterfinals of the Dixie Conference Tournament at Methodist College, but saw the Lady Pride come back and steal a 64-59 victory.
The Hornets took the opening lead on a jumper my senior Jenny Driver (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) and battled GC throughout the half; the two teams exchanged the lead 10 times before SU finally pulled away with 4:34 remaining when sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) gave SU a 28-22 when she converted a layup. Unfortunately for Shenandoah, Greensboro (16-8) countered with five unanswered points to cut the deficit to one by the half.
SU maintained its small lead throughout the first 9:30 of the second before the Lady Pride broke the game open on the strength of a 12-3 run by the 5:03 mark. The Hornets refused to go away, even cutting the deficit to just two at 60-58 with just over a minute to play, but could not get over the hump and fell by the final five point margin.
Driver led Shenandoah in her final college game with 13 points and eight rebounds. Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), the Dixie Conference Rookie of the Year, had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Gray also added 12 points and six assists.
