WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team gave new head coach Lois Bowers her first SU win in style Saturday afternoon with a 23-2 drubbing of Dixie opponent Averett University.

Bowers got her first SU win and 100th overall college lacrosse victory behind the strength of seven goals from freshman Lauren Prentice (Westminister, Md./Liberty) and another six goals and three assists from junior Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood)

Shenandoah (1-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 14-2 by halftime against the first-year Lady Cougars (0-2, 0-1). The Hornets outshot Averett 51-12 for the game, including 20-8 in the first 30 minutes of play.

The win is the first in a season opener for SU since the 1998 season and the Dixie win is the first since a 17-8 win over Greensboro to complete the 1999 season.

Senior Christine LaTouche (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) and sophomore Stephanie Rush (Spotsylvania, Va./Spotsylvania) rounded out the Hornets multiple point scorers with seven and two points, respectively. LaTouche's big day came on three goals and four assists.

Ashley Greer and JaAna Johnson had Averett's goals. Greer also added an assist.
