FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington College rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take a 9-6 non-conference victory over visiting Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon.
After Shenandoah (2-9-1) opened the contest with four runs on four hits and an error in the top of the first, MWC (6-4) scored one run in the bottom of the frame and then five more in the second to take a led it would not relinquish.
The Hornets had high hopes in that first at-bat; senior Rodney Wooden (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) led off with a walk and advanced to second on a balk by Eagles starter Cory Templeman. Manny Yanas (Palmdale, Calif./William Penn) tripled in Wooden and came home one batter later when Josh Bosley (Oakland, Md./Garrett CC) doubled.
After a strikeout, junior Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) chased Templeman when he ripped his second home run of the spring.
Unfortunately, this would prove to be the highlights of the day for the visitors. Shenandoah got just six hits in the remaining 8.2 innings to fall for the seventh straight outing.
Wooden, Bosley, Daniel and catcher Mike Arvizo (Palmdale, Calif./Antelope Valley) all had two hits for the Hornets.
