DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University scored five runs in the middle three innings Sunday afternoon to defeat Shenandoah University 6-1 in the final Dixie Conference regular season game of the season for both teams.

Averett (21-11, 6-6) touched starter Jeff Ledbetter (Bristow, Va./Dundalk CC) for two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Shenandoah (8-18-1, 3-9) nearly matched the Cougars hit for hit in the game, but was able to score just a single run in the ninth inning.

The Hornets got that single run in their last at-bat when Adam Kuchemba (Plains, Pa./Caughlin) doubled down the leftfield line with one out and scored on pinch hitter Tyler Gorman's (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) single to left.

Senior Manny Yanas (Palmdale, Calif./William Penn) was 3 for 5 while Kuchemba and Mike Christoforo (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) both had two hits.
