DANVILLE, Va. - The baseball team knocked off its third top 10 opponent in two weeks Wednesday morning as SU defeated Ferrum College 4-2 in the opening round of the Dixie Conference Tournament at Dan Daniel Park in Danville.

Shenandoah (9-18-1), the tournament's eighth seed, knocked off the No. 4 in the nation Panthers with three runs on three hits and an error in the top of the ninth inning.

The win vaults the Hornets into a second round game tomorrow at 4:30 against No. 4 seed Averett. The Cougars defeated No. 5 Greensboro 12-0 in the game right after the SU/FC contest.

Trailing 2-1 heading into its final at-bat, Shenandoah got a walk to lead off the inning followed by a sacrifice and three RBI singles to left to send top seeded Ferrum into the loser's bracket.

Rodney Wooden (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) led off with the walk and advanced to second on Josh Bosley's (Oakland, Md./Garrett CC) sacrifice bunt. Bosley was also safe on the play as Panthers pitcher Jason Beale threw the ball away trying to get Bosley at first.

Catcher Mike Arvizo (Palmdale, Calif./Antelope Valley) plated Wooden with the first single before Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) drove in Bosley one batter later. Following a FC pitching change and a flyout, JJ Rosati (Palmdale, Calif./Long Beach State) gave SU an insurance run with the final hit of the frame.

Starting pitcher Seth Foster (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) then completed the upset victory by allowing just a single in the last of the ninth. Foster earned his first victory of the year by striking out eight while walking three and scattering eight hits and two earned runs.
