DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University prevented the SU baseball team from continuing through the 2003 Dixie Conference baseball winner's bracket Thursday afternoon with a 12-4 victory.

Averett (23-11) broke open a 3-3 game with five runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth. Shenandoah (9-19-1) had erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring twice in the third and once in the sixth.

The Cougars scored those five seventh inning runs on four hits, two hit batters and two SU errors; starting pitcher JR Creamer (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) was chased after the first three hitters reached base safely. The Hornets finally stopped the bleeding eight batters into the frame by turning a 6-4-3 double play.

Junior Tyler Daniel (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) was 2 for 4 with a pair of runs batted in two lead Shenandoah at the plate.
