FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- Greensboro College ended the Shenandoah University women's lacrosse season Friday afternoon when the top seeded Lady Pride defeated SU 16-4 in the Dixie Conference Tournament semi-finals at Methodist College.

The loss ends the most successful women's lax season since 1998. This years team, the first under coach Lois Bowers, finished 6-6 overall.

Greensboro (12-3) advanced to its third straight championship game by jumping out to an early 4-0 lead in the first 5:30 of the contest.

SU finally snapped this string when freshman Lauren Prentice (Westminster, Md./Liberty) scored an unassisted goal with 23:24 remaining in the period. Unfortunately, the Pride scored seven unanswered goals in the following 13 minutes of play to end whatever hope the Hornets had of cutting into the lead by intermission.

Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) led Shenandoah with two first half goals. Both of her tallies came in the last six minutes before the break.

The Hornets then ran into a hot goalie in the second half. Stephanie Schaeffer, who was named Dixie Player of the Year earlier in the week, put on a clinic in the second half by stopping nine of 10 SU shots on goal.

Sparwasser finished the game with three goals while Prentice had one. Lorin Smith led the Pride with six points on three goals and three assists.

Christine Steffan (Langhorne, Pa./Notre Dame) managed four saves for Shenandoah while Schaeffer finished with 15.
