BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The SU women's lacrosse team picked up its first ever win over Bridgewater College Tuesday afternoon with a 12-9 non-league victory.
Shenandoah (3-5) saw Bridgewater (1-9) score three of the first four goals of the game but tallied five straight time in the middle of the first to take a 6-4 lead into the half.
Freshman Lauren Prentice (Westminster, Md./Liberty) had two goals while classmate Joia Davis (Trenton, NJ/Stuart County) added a goal and two assists.
The Hornets led by as much as four after Aicha Lahlou (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) scored with 21:33 remaining, but a three goal BC rally brought the hosts back to within one at 9-8 with 13:29 left.
Fortunately for SU, junior Sharon Sparwasser (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) scored two of her four second half goals in the next seven minutes to quell any thoughts of a Bridgewater victory.
Sparwasser led with five goals while Davis had two goals and two assists.
Christine Steffan (Langhorne, Pa./Notre Dame) made 11 saves to help SU to its first win over BC in the nine-year series.
