WINCHESTER, Va. - Coach Sarah Pelster's women's volleyball team played non-conference opponent Dickinson close Wednesday evening, but the Red Devils were too much as they took a 3-1 (30-23, 30-27, 30-20, 30-26) victory at Shingleton Gymnasium.
Dickinson (3-10) came back from a slow start in game one to win 30-23 and after SU (4-10) evened the match with a 30-27 game two triumph, put its hosts away with a strong performance along the front line in the final two games.
Junior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had a team high 12 kills with freshman Danielle Blackwell (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) chipping in a career high 10.
Sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty), the USA South Player of the Week this week, led defensively with 19 digs. Williams had 15, Blackwell 11 and senior Lesley Beard (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) 10 to go along with 24 assists.
