Shenandoah Splits Two

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah's volleyball team split a pair of matches at a USA South weekend at Chowan College Saturday afternoon by topping the host Braves, 3-1, and subsequently falling to Greensboro, 3-0.

Shenandoah now sits at 5-12 on the season and 2-2 in conference play while Greensboro leads the USA south at 12-4 overall with a 4-0 record in the league and Chowan is still searching for its first win at 0-10, 0-2.

In the opening match, sophomore Jenny Gray (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty) and junior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) led the Hornets to the four game victory with 19 and 17 kills, respectively.

Aside from dropping the second game of the match, Shenandoah never effectively let the Braves seriously contend with game scores of 30-26, 27-30, 30-20, 30-17 in favor of the Hornets.

In the Greensboro match, senior Lesley Beard (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Finch) led the Hornets with a match high 17 assists and eight digs - also a match best - from the back line in the 17-30, 16-30, 22-30 loss.

SU is back on the court Tuesday when the Hornets host USA South rival Christopher Newport. The match is slated to begin at 6:30.
