WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah women's basketball looked flawless in every aspect of its game against USA South opponent NC Wesleyan Saturday afternoon as the Hornets earned their first conference victory of the season in commanding fashion, 69-49.

SU (3-8 overall, 1-2 USA South) was propelled by a brilliant performance form freshman Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) who scored the Hornets' first eight points on her way to a 14-point, 11-rebound finish.

The visiting Lady Bishops (3-5, 0-3) actually held the initial lead of the contest when Elizabeth Ansley converted the first of a pair of free throws at the 19:21 mark of the first half, but Womack and the Hornets turned up the heat from then on.

Shenandoah's dismantling of its opponent was largely made possible by a constant effort from everyone involved to pressure the Lady Bishops' young team. SU had 22 steals as a team compared to only 14 for the visitors, which gave the hosts a 30-21 advantage in points scored off of turnovers as well as a lopsided 16-2 advantage in fast break points.

NCWC shot a mere 5-22 from the floor in the first half while Shenandoah built an insurmountable 33-17 advantage in the opening period.

The Lady Bishops did get a strong showing from the tandem of April Wilson and Lawanda Scott who netted 13 and 11 points, respectively.

In addition to the stellar effort from Womack, sophomore Joia Davis (Trenton, N.J./Stuart Co.) found her shooter's touch once again in leading all scorers with 15 points on 6-11 shooting and a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe. Junior Adina Trammel (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun Co.) added another 10 points off the bench.

Shenandoah does not have much time to celebrate its triumph, however, as they will play host to USA South opponent Chowan College at 5:30 on Monday afternoon.
