WINCHESTER, Va. - Frostburg State battled rainy conditions and an early Shenandoah University lead to take a 5-1 non-league field hockey decision Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (4-7) got the opening goal of the game in the 11th minute from freshman Jenn Iuliano (Fairplay, Md./St. James) off a Courtney Beard (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) penalty corner, but the Bobcats answered with five straight goals.
Samantha Riley tied the game in the 33rd minute off of a Brittany Blystone assist before getting the game winner 11 minutes later.
Kim Smith sandwiched a pair of insurance goals in the 53rd and 70th minutes around a Tawni Buck tally to provide the final margin.
FSU outshot the Hornets 22-6 and took 14 of the game's 18 penalty corners.
