Volleyball Breaks Record in Sweep

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University set a new school record for volleyball wins Tuesday night with a pair of 3-0 victories in the squad's 2004 home finale.

Shenandoah (17-17) broke the record of 15 wins set in the 1998 season under previous coach Dave McGuigan by sweeping both Mary Baldwin and Wilson colleges.

The Hornets breezed to the easy 30-21, 30-13, 30-22 win over Mary Baldwin (11-18) behind a match high nine kills from freshman Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), eight by classmate Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) and seven by senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar).

Thompson and Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) had a combined 25 assists.

The margin was even greater in the Wilson match; SU drilled the Phoenix (3-15) 30-6, 30-14, 30-14.

Williams had 15 kills and Chandler 19 assists to key the victory. Chandler and Greene each had a match high five service aces.
