FREDERICK, Md. — The Shenandoah University women's basketball team responded to the loss of its best player last week with a 67-58 non-conference victory over Hood College Tuesday night.

Down five early in the second half, Shenandoah (1-2) went on a 16-4 run over 3:40 to pull away from Hood (1-3).

Sophomore Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W. Va./East Hardy) led with a game-high 18 points while freshmen Netegia Foreman (Winchester, Va./Sherando) and Whitney French (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) rounded out double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively. For French, the 10 points came in her first start after junior Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) was lost for the season last weekend with a torn ACL.

Early in the second half, Hood capped a 10-2 run on a short Danielle Gallagher jumper to take its biggest lead of the night, 34-26, with 18:42 left to play. The Hornets chipped away at that deficit and after falling behind by five at the 14:43 mark, went on a 16-4 run — keyed by 10 Sanders points — to go ahead 51-44.

The Blazers attempted to rally, but coach Kathy Orsini's club had an answer each time.

In addition to the three players in double digit scoring, sophomore Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) and junior Joia Davis (Trenton, N.J./Stuart County) each had nine points. Womack was tops on the glass with nine while Davis pulled down eight.
