WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University's women's basketball team finished its first rotation through USA South play with an even 4-4 record following Sunday's 77-60 thrashing of Methodist College.
The Hornets (6-10 overall, 4-4 USA South) relied on strong defense in the first half as the Lady Monarchs (6-10, 3-5) converted just nine field goals before the intermission.
Shenandoah took the opening lead on sophomore Dee Fisher's (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) jumper 37 seconds into the contest and never looked back as Methodist failed to take the lead at any point in the game.
An 11-1 SU run in the first half gave the Hornets a 22-12 advantage with 6:11 remaining before halftime and Shenandoah shifted into cruise control from then on.
Pacing the Hornets were Fisher and junior Adina Trammel (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun Co.) who dropped in 16 points apiece. Trammel was one rebound short of a double-double on the afternoon. Freshman Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W.Va./East Hardy) also netted double figures in the scoring column, finishing with 13 points.
Methodist was led by the senior tandem of Stacy Holland and Meg Coe who came off the bench to score 13 and 10 points, respectively. Shenandoah's defense held the Lady Monarchs' starting five to nine combined points.
